The TM-PX30 pulse oximeter is designed to measure the percentage of oxygenated hemoglobin relative to total hemoglobin. Noninvasive measurement of arterial blood oxygen saturation is obtained by directing red and infrared light through pulsating blood vessels. The pulsating arterioles in the path of the light beam cause a change in the amount of light detected by the photodiode.
